The reason is to make sure that information filled in the blank copy are accurate in order to avoid issues with clearing agencies at the port of discharge. Once you approve the scan copy, your Auto-freight forwarder will then send you hard copy of the bill of lading by courier service since original copy of BL will be required for clearing by custom and other port operators.  

• Will bill of Lading cost me money: Yes. BofL will cost you token. I am sure your freight forwarder would add up to your freight shipping invoice. Bill of Lading will cost $50 in most countries.

• What should i do when i receive my Bill of Lading: Its very good to receive your BL some few days prior Vessel arrival in country of discharge. When you receive your Bill of Laden, it is important that you separate them and then append your signature to the original copy of bill of lading;
