FOU Intercepts N94.7m Harmful Drugs Imported from India

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday intercepted some pharmaceutical items suspected to be unfit for human utilization and other contral bands suspected to have been smuggled from India.

The items, which were seized by NCS's agents in Zone C Benin, worth the total sum of N94.7m.

The Area Comptroller of Customs in the command, Abubakar Azarema, who is additionally the National Coordinator, Comptroller-General of Customs' Compliance Team, declared this to journalist in Benin.
Azarema said that 1,149 cartons of the unidentified pharmaceutical items were smuggled into the nation through Lagos ports.

He said the medications were not verified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and were suspected to be unfit for utilization.

He further explained that the NCS was specific about protecting the health of Nigerians.

The items handed to Mr Godwin Tonwuru, the NAFDAC State Coordinator in Edo, where they were blocked.

He said that service will not reduce in the battle against smugglers.

Moreso, he advise shippers to sick to the standard rules by bringing in lawful and approved things.

Azarema encouraged merchants to dependably apply for endorsement from pertinent experts before bringing in products.

Tonwuru appreciates the NCS's concern, and ability in the battle against drugs not affirmed for human utilization.

In a different improvement, the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone "An" Ikeja, Lagos, has captured contraband with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N200.99 million amongst June and July.

The Controller of the unit, Mohammed Garba, said this at a news gathering on Wednesday in Lagos.

As indicated by Garba, the unit through its intercessions, recuperated N28.95 million duty payments and Demand Notices on general products that attempted to outflank custom officers at seaports, airport and border stations.
