Customs Seek Forfeiture of Imported goods Worth N50m

The Nigeria Customs Service Board has connected to the Federal High Court in Lagos, looking for a order of relinquishment on various prohibited goods worth N50,151,606.

The products said to have been caught between the period of April and June 2017, said to contain some used cloths, shoes, packs, bed sheets, brittle plates; 7,163 sacks of outside parboiled rice, and 147 jerrycans of vegetable oil.

The Assistant Legal Adviser of the Nigeria Customs Service Board, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Shehu Bodinga, showed up before Justice Abdulaziz Anka on Monday with an ex parte application looking for a relinquishment order on the products and the vehicles.

Bodinga told the judge that since the products were seized by the custom service, their rightful owners had ran away and declined to appear to claim them, having understood the seriousness of the discipline for their offense.

He said the Customs had gotten an order from the administration that piece of the seized things ought to be appropriated to victims of Boko Haram insurgency living in the Internally Displaced Persons camp in the North-East.
