Containership 366-meter CSCL Jupiter runs Aground, Blocks Antwerp port

Shipping movement to and from the port of Antwerp was 
suspended Monday after a big container-ship was unable to make a turn and ran on solid land on the Scheldt water shore.


The 366-meter CSCL Jupiter ran on solid land at around 9:50 nearby close Bath, Netherlands not long after withdrawing from the port of Antwerp set out toward Hamburg, Germany.

The Antwerp Port Authority said the establishing brought about the suspension of all shipping movement to and from the port.

Photographs posted internet amid low tide demonstrates the bow of the CSCL Jupiter out of water and hard on solid land on the sandbank.

AIS information indicates CSCL Jupiter was going at around 14 knots only preceding the establishing and after it neglected to make a sharp turn to port. In view of the area, CSCL Jupiter would have been under control of a sea pilot at the point of the incident.

The river Scheldt was said to be connected to the port of Antwerp, the second busiest port in Europe, toward the North Sea.

Antwerp port authorities did not state when access to the port would be reestablished or when the ship could be re-floated.

Water levels on the western Scheldt are vigorously impacted by the North Sea tide. The following high tide in Antwerp (4.93 meters, 16.18 ft) will be at around 10 p.m. local time on Monday (3 p.m. EDT).

The 13,300 TEU CSCL Jupiter was worked in 2011 and is hailed in Hong Kong. The vessel is under the management of China Shipping Container Lines, some portion of China COSCO.

In February 2016, the 399-meter CSCL Indian Ocean ran on solid land on Germany's Elbe River prompting the port of Hamburg. The ship was ashore for five days before a group of 12 pulls could pull the vessel off the sandbank. In that occurrence, the Elbe River stayed open with the exception of amid the initial incident and re-floating operation.
