The senate board of committees on customs and excise, revealed to Hameed Ali to wear the uniform of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to demonstrate his assignment as officer general (CG). On Thursday 2nd of Feb 2017.
The advisory group had summoned Ali to clarify the explanation behind the advancement and the sacking of officers without the endorsement of a board.
Talking at the session, Obinna Ogba, a representative from Ebonyi focal, asked why Ali would bear on the obligations of CG in regular citizen clothing.
"Mr CG, this advisory group will jump at the chance to know the motivation behind why you are still in mufti near two years after your arrangement as the specialist general of Nigeria Custom Service," he inquired.
Accordingly, Ali clarified that his purpose behind not wearing the uniform is on the grounds that he is a resigned armed force officer, that it was against military custom for him to wear the uniform of another association.
His reaction irritated Ogba, who stated, "this is the means by which you individuals continue misleading Nigerians on wrong activity and as yet protecting it," before leaving the session.
Likewise, Hope Uzodinma, executive of the panel and congressperson from Imo west, blamed the choice of the customs manager to advance and fire officers without plan of action to a board.
He said it was unlawful of the CG to complete such regulatory assignments without a board set up.
Yet, Ali faulted the service of fund for the postponement in the constitution of a board for the NCS. Accordingly, Uzodinma guaranteed him that the advisory group would send a letter to the service and other significant bodies for the quick constitution of the NCS board.
"You guaranteed that the priest of back is the one deferring the sythesis of the board, this advisory group will compose a letter straight away to the priest, secretary to the administration of the organization and lawyer general of league to set up the board immediately," he said.
"We are discharging you to go and sew your uniform while we proceed with authorities of service of fund and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)."
