Customs Aiding Smuggling of Rice into Nigeria, says Official

A previous Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Information, Peter Dama, says up to 100 truckloads of rice are smuggled over land borders into Nigeria, with conspiracy of degenerate customs authorities.

In a letter to the Comptroller-General of Nigerian Customs Services, dated April 9, he said the smuggling will weaken the production of local rice production so far recorded in the nation.

Dama said more than 100 truckloads of smuggled rice are off-stacked day by day in enormous markets in Kano, Jos, Abuja, Lafiya and Katsina states.

Dama, proprietor of Swomen Dama farms, in Plateau state deplored that accordingly of these unlawful exercises, occupations and venture at the rice plants and homesteads are debilitated.

"l trust that some rotten ones inside the Nigerian Customs Service and couple of loathsome Nigerians are scheming with these smugglers to disappoint the endeavors of Federal Government in accomplishing its sustenance security drive.

"I am in this manner approaching the experts as an issue of desperation to increase border watch and assault stores and distribution centers harboring smuggled rice," he said.

Dama needs smugglers discovered going around the laws to be executed.
