Afolabi to Osinbajo: Without Scanners, 24-hours port Operation will Fail

The Executive Vice Chairman of SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, disclosed that the acting president policy on the implementing of 24hrs operation at the port will fail without the use of functional scanners at the sea port.

He further explain that scanners in most ports across the nation are currently in a position to make it worst, if not impossible, for the Nigeria Customs Service to discharge its duty of container inspection effectively.

Most of this scanners used in our ports are either no longer working or working below installed capacity. so this has frustrated the Nigeria Customs Service to work with 100% physical examination of cargoes,

the process is quit difficult and hinders rates of qualities and efficient service that the Ease of Doing Business executive (DOB) order is trying to address.

of infrastructure provision in major sectors of the economy In order to address the problem of faulty scanners.

The model of compromising is as of now an accomplishment in the maritime sector. The most recent 11 years of private sector operation in port terminal management has conveyed extraordinary changes in delivery. I am persuaded that such accomplishment could be reached out to the scanning service if the Federal Government gives private investors the chance of handling the procedure," he said.

Aside the change in service delivery, he noticed that useful scanners at the ports are fundamental for national security in perspective of the current instances of unlawful arms importation through the country's ocean ports. He contended that such unlawful importation would have been found during cargo examination with the guide of functional scanners.

Likewise, he sponsored the resolve of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to entirely authorize the endorsed number of security and government offices at the ports, including that such would incredibly help satisfy the simplicity of working together command.
