Customs Seal Warehouse Containing 23,000 Bags of Rice on Ransom

The Nigeria custom service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone 'A', has unveiled the seizure of 23,000 packs of 50kg imported parboiled rice and that the importers owe the Government N149.5m on import duties.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Mr. joseph Attah, expressed this in an announcement made accessible to our reporter on Tuesday.

As indicated by him, the packs of rice are under seal in an unknown warehouse in Lagos anticipating the introduction of the significant importation records before further move can be made.

Attah, who said the order created over N1.3bn income within January and February this year, expressed that Request Notification of over N100m had been issued to two car dealers/constructing agents under custom seal anticipating duty for infractions in their import exchanges, while some were all the while experiencing court trials.

More than 16x40ft compartments under confinement are on careful examination and fitting Interest Notification will be raised and seizures affected where appropriate," he expressed.

On the 1,870 sacks of rice and vegetable oil seized from Sango Ota by its field agents as of late, which later prompted to dissents by a few dealers, the NCS exhorted the individuals who had an original documentation reports to approach and claim their goods.

The announcement cited the Controller Area of command, (CAC) Haruna Mamudu, as saying that its activity was in similarity with the law of Nigeria, and urged good matured Nigerians to consider smuggling to be a wrongdoing and danger to national development and security.
