Nigerian Court's Order Remand of Two Chinese Nationals in Prison

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday requested the remand in jail of two Chinese, Tao Shen and Jing Yau, accused of importation of fake tires.

Shen, 36, and Yau, 22, are charged with a Nigerian, Chinedu Madubuike, and two organizations, Sino Nig. Import and Export Ltd, and Nedeca International Ltd for bringing in fake tires into the nation.

The accused are standing trial on four checks verging on importation of substandard items.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that SON captured the two Chinese nationals, Taolung Shen and Xu Jing Yau, for bringing in substandard tires worth over N5 billion in an announcement it issued late February.

The suspects, as indicated by the announcement, were paraded after their capture, and the stockroom where they had been cloning distinctive sizes of tires under various brand names was fixed.

They were initially charged in a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on March 8, 2017.
