US Immigration Officials Force a Nigerian Software Engineer to Complete Written Test to Prove his Computer Knowledge

US immigration officer constrained a Nigerian software engineer to finish a composed test on binary search trees to demonstrate his computer knowledge.


Customs and Border Protection officers, took Celestine Omin, 28, into a space for further checks after he landed at New York's JFK Airport a week ago, 24 hours after he set off.

He disclosed to them he worked for Andela, a tech start-up with workplaces in New York, Lagos, Nairobi and San Francisco, which cases to take "the most gifted engineers on the African continent" and to connect them with potential US businesses.

The firm has workplaces in Kenya's capital Nairobi, San Francisco, New York and the Nigerian city of Lagos, which was gone to by Facebook originator Mark Zuckerberg.

One of the officers then gave him a bit of paper and a pen and advised to answer these two inquiries to demonstrate he is really a software engineer:

"Compose a function to check if a Binary Search Tree is balanced."
